I think Brian would gladly accept simple tasks like world hunger compared to the other crap he's shouldered recently. I thought he already solved the global energy crisis last week? :)

But seriously... we have a lot of crap to do.

Believe it or not, I did consider setting up a notice board outside my office with "mission" envelopes pinned to it, each filled with a detailed outline of a task that the department needs done. A task could be a proof-of-concept for a technology or framework, developing some standards, putting together a training presentation, etc.

The idea would be that people interested in taking something new on could take an envelope off the board and work on the topic for that quarter. I'd then review the outcome with the person who did the work and would polish it with them for delivery. Not only would the person taking on the task achieve lifelong fame and unlimited career potential from their endeavors, but I could probably get Jackson to cough up some cash and prizes of some sort for those who participated.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not, and as much as I'd love everybody to participate I'm sure not everybody will. However, participants would leave the exercise with feathers in their caps for their efforts for sure. I think this would also create the opportunity for people who care to actively contribute to the development of the department as we head toward our long term goals, something which I have always felt to be incredibly important.

I must warn you, you'll never achieve high-ranking status in the CF community if you associate with pariahs like LeGros and I. I have added you to my blog roll as a deterrent. :)

- max

I suggest that anything in the department that needs doing should be put on a post-it note then places in the window over Brians desk where he's not allowed to remove then until they're done. I expect productivity would be out of this world! We could throw some other annoying problems on there as well like world hunger and the global energy crisis.
