  • Import .MOV Files in to iMovie Faster

I’ve always suspected this, but this post confirms it: if you just open iMovie projects as packages in the Finder and drop the .MOV media files in to the Media folder, they will be instantly usable instead of having to wait hours for iMovie to import them.

This should make the creation of CBTs with iShowU for work much easier. Here’s a nice tutorial of bringing iShowU files in to iMovie for screencasting.

Halleluja! I’ve been pulling my hair out producing iShowU screencasts w/ iMovie. great tip- thanks Max!

on another note, i did find the magical settings that produce the cleanest footage in iMovie-> http://www.scrollinondubs.com/2007/06/12/produce-a-clear-screencast-in-imovie/

Thanks. I was able to get a clean export using 1024×768 as the capture size, and then using the expert setting to export at the same resolution (1024×768).

Doesn’t the HDV 720p file need to be exported at 1280×720 in order to be clean (since that’s its native resolution)?

iMovie is going to be a hell of a lot more useful for me with this from now on. Since you can record voiceovers, I’ll be able to make bad ass QuickTime training movies Lynda.com-style! :)
