That is the problem with vista, it installs EVERYTHING for EVERY version! So even if you install just Vista Home you get all the Ultimate stuff on your PC, because they want you to be able to click go to a website and upgrade your key and BOOM you have Ultimate! It sucks so much.

Wow. That's big.

Leopard is a bit of a porker, too - I can't remember how much space was consumed by Leopard on Jessica's MacBook when I bought it for her, but I remember being shocked at how large it was. This was with a factory install, of course.

Now, with Leopard (and any version of OS X I've installed), it's pretty darn easy to just remove the printer drivers and Asian fonts etc. during a clean installation process. Not sure if the same is true with Vista since I have never installed it from scratch.

- max

Just a heads up if you ever do get around to installing visita make sure you have enough room. I gave it 17 gigs, and it took 12 just to install the OS.

My Mac is my primary dev env so Vista is purely for Windows compatibility with certain clients.

Thanks Sean. That puts some things in perspective for me.

Are you using Vista as a primary development environment, or do you work on your CF code on the Mac most of the time? I'm guessing you are restricted to SQL Server for consulting clients at least some of the time.

- max

I've been running Vista Ultimate on VMware on my MacBook Pro for some time and the kindest thing I can say is that I don't hate it. It's slow, it's a resource hog. It is surprisingly stable tho'. And it looks so much prettier than ghastly old XP with its cartoon graphics!

I run CF8 and BD7.NET and SQL Server on Vista all the time and it's OK. Not great, just OK.

Now I've gotten used to how stuff works on Vista, I don't find it gets in the way (although the security is totally over the top for a single-user *desktop* O/S!). I had to disable the firewall to get SQL Server working properly. I have not disabled UAC but it sure is annoying.

I'm considering "upgrading" to XP tho' to get more performance.
