Nice Iwo Banaś!

Now there is something that disturbs the force a bit. If you zoom out or pan the data on the left or right is disappearing when it cross the y-axis. I wonder how can that be avoided? how can we overlap the data so it doesn't disappear so quick on the left or right side when panning?

Some ideas?

Thanks

There is an issue with LinearAxis.
I should use LinearAxis instead of CategoryAxis for zooming of chart. Axis values(labels) do not refresh on scroll.(

Do you how to fix it?

Thanks,
Roman

I've updated the code listed here to work as a vertical scrolling axis renderer.

Maxim, shoot me an email (find it on my website), and let me know how I can submit this to you. I'm also writing an article about this on my site; with credits to this page.

Wow, that's awesome. I'll shoot you an email. I'd like to get this in to FlexLib as we'd talked about before, so if you are cool with that I'll submit it to Doug McCune as a joint effort from Joel, you, and myself.

Max -
I see this still isn't out for general sharing anywhere. I like it so much more than Joel's original or the Iwo Banas alternative, since it handles dynamic data providers and appears to handle all the other advanced features of axis renderers flawlessly.

The only problem I had, as others have posted about, is that I needed it to work with vertical axes as well.

I dug into your code and managed to tweak it to do that, and have tested it quite thoroughly. The only impacted file was ScrollBarAxisRenderer.as, and changes are minimal.

I also added a new capability to specify a boolean attribute called "initBarAtEnd." If specified as "true," when the data provider changes, the scroll bar is initialized at the end of the scrolling area rather than the beginning, a feature I also needed. If not specified, or specified as "false," the scroll bar initializes to the beginning of the chart as it always has.

Email me if you'd like those changes and I'll send you my modification so you can post it for the others that have expressed interested in a vertical scrolling axis capability.

Thx,
JJ

Iwo,

That's a really nice solution - great work. I especially like the multiple axis scrolling. I think I may use your component if I need a scrolling chart in the future instead!

The only suggestion I would make is that there is no visual indication that there is more data to be viewed; you would have to let the user know that they can drag the chart.

Thanks,

- max

Hi,

I am working on a similar component for scrolling/zooming chart in both directions. In my component scrolling/zooming is done by modifying axis minimum/maximum properties (currently charts with LinearAxis or DateTimeAxis are supported) so that dataProvider doesn’t have to be wrapped.

You can find more details on my blog:
http://www.iwobanas.com/2009/07/scrolling-and-zooming-chart-with-chartscroller/

What do you think about my ChartScroller?

Cheers,
Iwo Banaś

oneeyejack,

This component did not end up being needed at my place of work and was never needed in a vertical capacity, so I just haven't had time to look at it. I'm pretty focused on my Loom project at the moment so I am not sure when I will get back to this... sorry I can't be more specific.

I figured out how to get the component working with data binding by looking at the source from the original code written by Joel May, so as I have said before, I'd suggest that anybody who needs the vertical version working just look at the source and see what's going on.

- max
